Mike Hernandez
The Challenge
When Mike Hernandez started Elite Flooring Solutions, most of the company's projects came through referrals. The business wasn't huge, but it was growing steadily, and for years Mike was able to keep track of everything himself. Customer conversations lived in his inbox, estimates were organized in spreadsheets, and project updates were usually handled through phone calls and text messages.
As the company expanded, that approach became harder to maintain. More leads were coming in, more crews were being scheduled, and more projects were running simultaneously. Nothing was completely broken, but Mike felt like he was spending more time tracking information than actually running the business. Important details often required searching through emails, messages, and notes just to understand where a project stood.
"The business was growing, which is what we wanted," Mike says. "But I started realizing that growth becomes a problem when your systems don't grow with you."
The Solution
Mike wasn't looking for another estimating tool. He already had ways to create estimates. What he wanted was a better way to connect sales, operations, scheduling, and customer management into one workflow.
After evaluating several options, he chose Jobstimate because it addressed the entire customer journey rather than solving just one piece of the puzzle. The team started by centralizing customer records, estimates, and active projects. Once everyone was working from the same system, they gradually expanded into scheduling, invoicing, and job costing.
"The biggest change wasn't the software itself," Mike explains. "It was the fact that everyone finally had access to the same information."
The Results
Within a few months, the company began operating with far more visibility. Salespeople could see project progress, office staff could track estimate activity, and management gained a much clearer picture of what was happening throughout the business.
The biggest improvement came from understanding profitability. Before Jobstimate, Mike could see revenue, but understanding margins often required waiting until a project was finished. Job costing allowed the team to track labor, materials, and expenses throughout the life of a job.
"Revenue tells you how busy you are," Mike says. "Profitability tells you how healthy your business actually is."
Today, Elite Flooring Solutions continues to grow while maintaining a lean office staff and a level of operational visibility that simply wasn't possible before.
